… who is Peter Capaldi?
Peter Capaldi was born on the 14th of April 1958 in Glasgow. He has had a large number of roles in film and television, and is perhaps best known for his role as Malcolm Tucker in the comedy series The Thick of It, and its follow-up film In the Loop. For a proper filmography, go to WIKI.
And he is no new face to the world of Doctor Who.
He played a fictional version of Caecilius in “The Fires of Pompeii”, a 2008 episode of Doctor Who and he returned to the Doctor Who franchise in 2009, playing civil servant John Frobisher in Torchwood: Children of Earth. Remember him?

Peter Capaldi is a wonderfully versatile actor; loved his work in ‘Local Hero’ and the BBC’s adaptation of Iain Banks’ ‘Crow Road’ but when they announced him as the Doctor, I couldn’t help but feel slightly underwhelmed. When Steven Moffat said that they hadn’t considered anyone else, I wondered whether going for the ‘obvious’ choice was just a smidgeon bit lazy too! Still, proof is in the pudding, so let’s wait and see what Peter Capaldi ‘does’ with the role : )

Unfortunately I haven’t yet seen Peter Capaldi in any other role (though I have been up and down the internet catching up on his career details), but my spontaneous first impression is good. He’s got an interesting face with lots of character potential, he’s not going to have to compete with Matt Smith directly, being older, he’s nicely British and could well develop a few new intriguing eccentricities to hold the interest of existing fans and win new ones. Maybe some of us ladies might have been wishing for a more, um, eye-catching image (David Tennant is still being actively mourned in the appropriate circles) but it certainly isn’t going to stop us continuing to watch the programme with the usual excitement and enjoyment. It’s very heart-warming to see the overwhelmingly positive reaction from the fans and the waves of best wishes Mr. Capaldi has undoubtedly felt breaking over him. Good luck!

I was hoping for a more mature Doctor. Someone less ‘agile’, less ‘crazy’, so I guess I got what I hoped for. I was also hoping for eye-candy … well … What I do like about him is the fact that he is the 3rd Scot to play the Doctor. But I will always miss David Tennant as he was MY Doctor.
Anyways, I cannot wait for Peter Capaldi’s first appearance and how he and Clara will get along. Let’s meet here again next year and share our opinions ;o)
